iLs is natural fit for PT practices whether in hospitals, clinics or school environments. The program flexibility allows PT’s to customize programs for rehab goals as well as all levels of functional, program lengths, and client needs.
The 3 components of iLs – auditory, motor and interactive language – can be used together or independently, depending upon the situation and the needs of the individual. Most PTs use the iLs auditory component simultaneously with their physical therapy activities, and take specific pieces of the iLs motor program as needed. For example, the visual tracking ball from the iLs motor component is frequently a welcome addition to physical therapy practices.
Applications
iLs has a global effect on the brain and central nervous system, influencing the following systems: balance, visual, auditory, motor, coordination, behavior and emotional regulation. As a result, it is successfully implemented for a wide variety of conditions:
- Learning difficulties, reading, auditory processing
- Attention & regulation
- Sensory processing
- Speech & Language
- Autism and other neuro-developmental difficulties
Clinic Programs: Most clinic programs involve 15-40 sessions, with each session being 30-60 minutes in length.
Clinic + Home Programs: To supplement the frequency of clinic therapy, PTs can re-sell or lease iLs equipment to their clients to use at home. This is a growing trend reflecting the strong results that can be achieved with greater frequency. Example: Client comes in for clinic therapy once or twice a week and uses iLs home equipment 3-4 times per week. The home equipment includes balance and visual tracking equipment and a guidebook (the iLs Playbook) which allow the user to attain the multi-sensory training which we now know is more effective than listening alone.
School Programs: School PTs are able to enhance their results by integrating iLs into school programs. School personnel can be trained to conduct iLs sessions in the absence of the OT so that the intensity required for improvement may occur. For specifics on school implementation please see the Educator page or contact iLs.
Implementation
Training is required before purchasing equipment. The following training options are explained in detail on our Training page:

- Distance Training (DPTC), which can be taken from home and is self-paced
- Interactive Language Certification Training (ILCT), a 4-hour distance course for speech therapists
- Advance Certification Training (ATC), a 4-day advanced course
