WHAT'S
NEW
Revised iLs Playbook +
Videos
The iLs Playbook, the
guide to visual, balance and movement exercises
which accompanies each iLs system, has been
revised. The new edition has an expanded Early
Developmental Program, now 10 full sessions,
including 21 activities for those at an early
developmental age. The new Playbook is being
shipped with all new orders and is available for
purchase by current iLs users for $25. Video
demonstrations of the new activities are loaded
onto the iPods of all new orders along with the
video demonstrations of the main Playbook
Program.
Autism Case
Study
As our readers know, the
iLs Case Study Series features a new case study
each month sent to us by a therapist or educator
using the iLs program in their practice.
December’s Case Study, submitted by Kids Kount
Therapy in Mobile, AL, elicited such interest
among readers that we wanted to share with
everyone a 10-minute video interview with the
mother (a pediatrician) and the two therapists
of the child. The child, a 5-year old,
high functioning autistic girl, saw such
significant gains on her combined OT, SLP &
iLs program that she is no longer in
therapy. Please click here to view
the video
clip.
Payment Plan Option Now
Available
In response to your
requests, iLs is now offering a payment plan for
our popular Total Focus and Focus 200 Systems.
The plan spreads payments over a 3-month period.
The plan is available to iLs Associates only,
not end users. Email office@integratedlistening.com
for specifics.
New iLs Waist
Pack

Included with all system
purchases is our newly designed waist pack! The
improved design cushions against impact and
allows for headphone cabling to flow un-impeded.
The belt portion tightens down on even the
tiniest of waists. Available until January 31st
for $10 plus shipping (50%
off).
Free
Replacement: If you bought a Focus or
Pro unit between June and December of 2010, or
upgraded to the new lock-in connectors in that
time period, you should be using the new waist
pack (pictured above). This waist pack has a
grommet at the top of the bag, rather than on
the front, to reduce stress on cable
connections. Contact Support at support@integratedlistening.com
with the date of your pu rchase, or upgrade, and
we will send you a new bag at no
cost.
Headphones &
Hypersensitive
Kids
Here
are some pointers from Melissa Khan, OTR/L - of
Sensory Kids in Cos Cob, CT - and other
experienced iLs therapists regarding the
challenge of using headphones with sensitive
children.
1. Attitude:
the attitude of therapist is very important; a
child will sense fear or hesitation, so be
gentle and confident
2. Modulate
first: do an organizing activity first,
e.g. squeezy balls, respiration work, massage,
linear/rhythmical movement, PLAY-DOH® activity,
etc...
3. Familiar
activity: introduce headphones while
doing a familiar activity
4.
Begin with music rich in calming low
frequencies: such as FSM (Full
Spectrum) or SI-BW (Sensory Integration
Bandwidth) piece, or one of the first sessions
in a Focus program
5. Introduce
gradually: e.g. a minute at a time - or
play take turn games
6. Mom out
of the room: some children are less
distracted when Mom is not
present
7. Favorite
music: sometimes it helps to first use
the headphones with their favorite
CD
8. Smaller children:
if the headband is not tight enough to keep the
headphones on, try a bandanna tied slightly
tighter or a cap (e.g. swim cap or knitted cap)
placed over the headphones
